How To Reduce The Oil In Your Skin!

Having an oily skin type can be a bit of a catch 22, others tell you that you look like you are glowing but you feel like you have Niagara Falls dripping off your face, and it’s taking your makeup with it.

Now, listen up. We don’t want to start stripping all these beautiful oils off your face, when we start to do that our skin goes into P-A-N-I-C mode and it will overproduce oils to make up for the change. Instead there are some things we suggest that you can do to help control and balance the oil:

  • Remember that more oil is not the enemy

Using oils in your skin care routine can actually be very beneficial to balancing out your natural oils. Before you go slapping handfuls of coconut oil straight onto your face though, we need to be strategic on what we actually use. If not we run the risk of clogging our pores and encouraging break outs. We (naturally) recommend our Twelve Oil Serum, which sports a blend of 12 heavenly oils. Try it now and thank us later!

  • Clean your skin, gently

We spoke before about not stripping your skin of all it’s naturaly oils, but don’t get that mixed up with not cleaning it. A gentle but effective cleanser once to twice a day will keep your oils at bay.

  • Incorporate activated charcoal into your routine

Activated charcoal is a killer ingredient and no match for oil, which is why we LOVE that it is in our Expel Detox Mask. This particular ingredient removes excess oil, along with sebum, dirt and makeup residue. Consistent use of activated charcoal can go a long with helping to balance your oily skin type.

  • Consume more Vitamin D and Omega-3 Fatty Acids
What goes into your body is just as important as what you put on it. As well as being conscious about what your general diet is looking like (note: high levels of dairy and sugar will do nothing nice for your oil production #sorryicecream), you might want to consider upping your intake of both Vitamin D and Omega-3 Fatty Acids, both can be found in abundance in fish and eggs. We encourage you to have a research to find foods that you enjoy that will incorporate these into your diet, or you could consider grabbing them in capsule form at your local pharmacy.

Everyone’s body is going to react to every method different, it is all about trial and error to figure out what your skin and body responds well to. Be kind to yourself, fill your body with nutritious food, drink your water, get into a consistent skin care routine and you will see changes. Consistency is the key, and if you struggle with this, keep it simple!
